Oscars 2020: Way-Too-Early Predictions

2020 Oscars best picture predictions

When one door closes, another one opens. The 2019 Oscars closes the door on the films of 2018. The Oscars are so polarizing in the fact that every award will leave someone happy or disappointed. However, I hope you followed some of my gambling advice and threw some money down on Olivia Colman to win Best Actress or Green Book to win Best Picture. If you didn’t, there’s always the 2020 Oscars

Speaking of next year, the 2020 Oscars will be here before you know it! The upcoming year is set to mark the return of two of the most popular and well-respected directors of the last 30 years in Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. During the 2019 Oscars, a teaser trailer played during the commercial of Scorsese’s upcoming movie, The Irishman, which will be in theaters and on Netflix this fall. This was Netflix’s way of saying “We’ll be back and better than ever at next year’s Oscars.” Tarantino’s film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, is already garnering Oscar buzz thanks to its star-studded cast which includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Al Pacino.

In the acting categories, Tom Hanks will look to become the second man ever to win three Best Actor awards as he stars in the Mr. Rogers biopic, Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Speaking of Scorsese, Robert De Niro teams up with the legendary director for the ninth time in The Irishman. For Best Actress, circle the name Cynthia Erivo. The Tony Award winning actress will play the legendary Harriet Tubman in a biopic, which is guaranteed to generate Oscar buzz.

Now all of these films may be nominated or none of them will be nominated. The Academy can be pretty unpredictable. However, there’s no harm in making some predictions. Here are my way-too-early predictions for the 2020 Oscars.
